はじめに
「世界へ広がる交流の輪」
東川町は、1985年に世界にも類のない「写真の町」宣言をしました。「写真文化」を通じて「この小さな町で世界中の写真に出逢えるように、この小さな町で世界中の人々と触れ合えるように、この小さな町で世界中の笑顔が溢れるように」願っています。
現在、本町の国際交流において、日本語教育事業は中心的な役割を果たしています。 その始まりとなった、2009年からおこなわれてきた町の短期日本語・日本文化研修事業が実を結び、2015年10月、全国初の公立日本語学校を開校しました。
本校は、韓国、中国、台湾、ベトナム、タイ、インドネシア、などアジア地域からの留学生が大半を占めています。
また、本校に併設されている「ひがしかわ多文化共生室」に国際交流の相談窓口を設け、町民との交流やボランティア、イベントのほか、留学生の就職支援の活動もおこなっています。
言葉は、お互いに意思を伝えあい理解し合うための大切な手段です。言葉は、その国の社会の特徴や伝統を反映している大切な文化です。異なる国の文化や価値を理解し合い、相互に信頼を深めるために重要な役割を果たしています。
この地で日本語を学び、様々な交流を通して多くの国の皆さんと理解し合い、友情を深めてください。そして写真文化を通じて人々が集い、世界に開かれたまちづくりを進める本町の取組みが世界中に広がることを願っています。

"東川町立東川日本語学校は大雪山のふもと、北海道東川町に位置する日本語学校です。2015年、日本で初めての公立日本語学校として設立されました。
私たちの学校は、丁寧な指導を日々実践する教職員と、和気藹々となごやかに語り合い学びあう校風が誇りです。また、本校は志を高くして来日する留学生への敬意を忘れず、一人ひとりを大切にして、世界の平和に貢献する国際性豊かな人材の育成に努めています。留学生が互いに国の文化を理解しあい、相手を尊重しあうことによって、国と時間を越えた信頼関係が育ちます。信頼は「愛」を育て、熱意は「夢」をはぐくみます。
海外から日本に来た留学生が、それぞれが目的とする日本語能力を身につけて世界で活躍できること、日本の生活習慣や伝統を理解し日本人の心に深く共感できること、さらには有意義な人生にこの日本語教育が寄与することを願って、日々の日本語教育を充実させていきます。"
"Higashikawa Japanese Language School is the northernmost Japanese language school in Japan, located in Higashikawa Town, Hokkaido, at the foot of Mt. Daisetsuzan. Established in 2015 as the first public Japanese language school in Japan.
Our school prides itself on its experienced teachers who provide kind and courteous guidance on a daily basis, and the school atmosphere of friendly conversation and learning. In addition, our school never forgets to respect international students who come to Japan with high aspirations, values each individual, and strives to develop human resources with a rich international character who can contribute to world peace. When international students understand each other's culture, and respect and accept each other, a relationship of trust that transcends country and time is nurtured. Trust breeds love, and enthusiasm breeds dreams.
Our school's motto is "Wakei Seijaku". The meaning of this school motto is to get along well with everyone, respect others, treat them with a pure heart, and have a heart that is not shaken by anything.
We hope that international students who come to Japan from other countries will be able to acquire the desired Japanese language skills and be active in the world, understand Japanese lifestyles and traditions and deeply sympathize with the hearts of Japanese people, and have a meaningful life. I hope that this Japanese language education can contribute, and I will continue to enhance my daily Japanese language education.

- 東川町短期日本語・日本文化研修事業（現在の短期コース）の開講
- 2014年10月
- 「東川町立東川日本語学校」の設置認可申請を行う
- 2015年8月
- 法務省告示により「東川町立東川日本語学校」設置認可の告示を受ける
- 2015年10月
- 全国初の公立日本語学校として開校。初代校長三宅良昌氏就任
- 2016年10月
- 校舎改修が完了し、「東川町文化芸術交流センター」としてオープン
「東川町文化芸術交流センター」での授業開始
- 2017年10月
- 東川SONG「ここは地球のどまん中」を校歌に制定
- 2018年4月
- 「東川文化芸術交流センター」が「東川町複合交流施設 せんとぴゅあⅠ」に改称。第2代校長奥山富雄氏就任

- Applied for permission to establish the Higashikawa Japanese Language School.

- Received approval for establishment of Higashikawa Japanese Language School by the Ministry of Justice.
- Oct. 2015
- Opened as the first public Japanese language school in Japan. Mr. Yoshimasa Miyake appointed as the first principal.
- Oct. 2016
- Renovation of the school building completed, opening as the Higashikawa Culture and Arts Exchange Center.
